No one knows how the star got there, but they know it has special powers and can be used for fast travel, but it takes 5 golden coins to visit the star islands because it requires a sacrifice! After some time, a Koopa realized he could make a lot of money there and set up shop. The two castles gave coins to visitors, but two Toads and a Koopa set up shop near them to profit. They also placed switches that give you 10 golden coins to help you in your quest. A nearby tower decided to help by giving you a random item every time you pass.
