Mario Party 2: Rosalina’s Cosmic Icecap Info

Light the Observatory beacon to fly again!” Rosalina’s Cosmic Icecap galaxy welcomes you!

Rosalina said the Comet Observatory lost power and hibernated, accumulating snow and stardust until it froze! You must gather Star Power to light the beacon to fly again!

The layout loops around the Comet Observatory with an N64-style Rosalina. The main loop has two outer “branches” and banks and shops on Starshrooms around the board.

The Observatory Lumas participate in many events:

Launch Star: Yellow Lumas are in one of four “Luma Spaces” (extra Star Spaces). If you pay 5 coins, the Luma will become a Launch Star and randomly send you to another Luma Space or Start. It speeds travel and may be worth it if the Star follows another Luma Space!

Pull Star: Happening Spaces near a Blue Luma turn it into a Pull Star, letting you steal an opponent’s item! If no opponents have an item or you can’t hold any more, you’ll get 2-12 Star Bits, depending on placement.

Green Star: Happening Spaces near a Green Luma will give you a Green Star gift and summon a Hidden Block! The Hidden Block chances (coins or Star) depend on your placement. You can also get a 1-coin dud.

The Happening Space near the Red Luma gives you Red Star flight, letting you travel to a rival’s space. Landing will activate the space’s effect if it’s not a Happening Space!

A Luma will ask you to trade some Star Bits for 3-9 coins when you land near a cluster. You can also exchange Star Bits for coins at an equivalent exchange rate!

LumaShop: Lumalee! Lumabop! Welcome to Luma Shop! Variety of items on sale: A simple mushroom costs 5 coins. A simple Skeleton Key costs 5 coins. The Comet Medal instantly summons a Prankster Comet to move the Star! Costs 5 coins. Your stash gets 10 Star Bits! Costs 5 coins. Adds 20 Star Bits to your stash! Costs 10 coins. Red Star allows you to fly to a rival’s space. You’ll keep moving, unlike the Red Luma event. Costs 10 coins. Life Mushroom: 1 Star, 40 Coins! What? 20 free coins! Trade 2 Stars for a 1-Up Mushroom. The next turn you start with 0 coins will be traded for 100!

Ice Flowers are another board feature. Probably their natural habitat?

Ice Flower: Landing near a cluster of Ice Flowers will blast you with ice and cost you 6-12 coins.

No Skeleton Gate on Ice Flower Blockade. Instead, two Ice Flowers dance on the road and block an ice tunnel. You can pass with a Skeleton Key or 10 coins. Boo awaits across the ice tunnel!

This board has two custom-coded Item Shops that mimic in-game shops. To accommodate AI logic, if the CPU selects “yes” in a shop, they will immediately buy an item within their budget without browsing.
