Following the success of team combat missions and immersive challenges of the first two Final Fantasy versions. Final Fantasy III was released in Japan in 1990. In this version, the story of the game will revolve around the four main characters. They are orphans raised in Ur village on a floating continent and taken care of by the elder Topapa village. One day, they discovered a mysterious cave hidden inside the Altar cave, near the village of Ur. Deep inside the cave, four children spotted a crystal of light. They are given a piece of this crystal to help it perform the task of balancing the power between light and darkness for the world. After receiving the power and the mission, the four children bid farewell to the elder Topapa and began their journey to protect the world.
During this journey, the characters discover an evil warlock that wants to take advantage of the power of light crystals to rule the world. He is known under the name Xande. After crossing many different lands, four young warriors arrived at the Crystal Tower. Here, they discovered the Cloud of Darkness is the cause of chaos to the world recently. Cloud of Darkness wants to create chaos similar to the event 1000 years ago – 4 light crystals have consumed the world. To defeat the Cloud of Darkness, the four warriors of light have to enter the land of darkness – a place controlled by dark crystals, to free the dark warriors. From there, they can work together to destroy the Cloud of Darkness and bring balance to the world.
With the mission to protect the world, you will have to overcome many dangerous systems in different lands. Battles still take place in a turn-based format. However, this version has major upgrades to the image and the characters will move during combat instead of simple captions like the previous two versions. In addition to bringing many attractive moves during the battle, this version also allows the character to learn many different professions compared to fixing a job as its predecessors. However, changing and apprenticeship will require the use of competency points. And you can collect power points after completing each match. Besides, this game also owns 2 new fighting features for players to use as Steal or Jump. Finally, Final Fantasy III is also the first version to bring creature summons to support characters in combat. Note, the player can only use this feature after learning the summoning skill.
